10 Effective Ways to Maintain Your Home’s Value
Preserving, upgrading and updating your home while you live there, rather than waiting until you’re selling, makes a lot of sense. Whether you’re looking to refinance to make some bigger changes or want to simply freshen things up a bit, Green Tree Servicing offers these smart suggestions:
  1. Pay attention to curb appeal. Good first impressions help maintain your home’s value. So keep the lawn, landscaping and entrance easy to maintain and well cared for. After all, they’re the first things people see.
  2. Repaint and refresh. One of the easiest ways to freshen up the interior of your home is to give it a fresh new coat of paint every five years or so (generally less frequently for the exterior).
  3. Update & upgrade where possible. While updating appliances is sometimes necessary, you don’t have to upgrade to a better, more-expensive model every time. Pick and choose which appliances to upgrade, rather than just replace.
  4. Clean regularly. This one is a no-brainer, but it can help keep your space looking better and more pleasant to live in. Plus, clean homes have a higher value and age better overall.
  5. Inspect plumbing, including faucets, toilets, showers and pipes, for any obvious issues. Leaks and floods can happen at the worst times, so it pays to prevent them by occasionally inspecting your home’s plumbing. Call in a professional when necessary.
  6. Make larger repairs/replacements when the time comes. Is it time to think about replacing your roof? What about the windows? Now may be the time to make these investments.
  7. Stay organized. Decluttering and organizing can create more space, make your home tidier and help reduce your stress level.
  8. Make it more energy efficient. Enjoy the savings that accompany energy-efficient appliances. They’ll also be especially attractive to potential buyers when you eventually sell.
  9. Keep your home pest free. Have an exterminator perform an inspection to check for termites, rodents and other destructive critters.
  10. Update any outdated parts of your home. Does a room’s paint color, furniture or curtains look like they belong in a classic TV show? Then it’s probably time to shop and update. Plus, you’ll have fun doing it!

Absent such limits, Green Tree will pay the actual cost of the required appraisal(s). Not all loan products require an appraisal. If no appraisal is required, no comparable credit will be given.
